Etching wine bottles is a process that requires an acute eye for detail, a steady hand and most importantly, vision.   California Etching specializes in developing your concept into a showpiece of the wine collector's cellar and lasting impression for the corporate gift recipient.

The Canvas

The process of etching begins with the bottle - which is our canvas.  We work with all major producers of "glass" and understands the nuances of each bottle type and size.   We etch 750's and large formats as well as all shapes of bottles.

Precision

Once the art is approved and ready for production – every single bottle to be etched will need to be marked.   Marking is done by hand to develop a guideline for the placement of the stencil.   This is where we set the height on the bottles and gauge the distance between the seams on the bottle.

Etching

Aluminum Oxide is used to etch each bottles – Al2O3 is a very fine silicate that is forced by air through custom nozzles to carve the effect onto the surface of the glass.   Each and every bottle is etched by the hand of a master craftsman.   No high tech tools, just compressed air, very fine sand and experience.  The results border perfection.  We are not merely reproducing art - we are creating it.

Artistry

Once the bottles are etched, the art is truly 3D.   You can feel the type and logo as it's sharp to the fingertips - but to bring it "alive" paint is applied to replicate your artwork.  Each color is applied by hand and allowed to dry before the next treatment begins.   The grooves from the etch accept the paint willingly.  The final product is nothing short of stunning.

Preserve

Once the paint is dry, each bottle is examined and dusted before being packaged.   It's at this point where CE is essentially storing your artwork for fulfillment.
